Since the industrial revolution, injuries across the world have become one of the major causes of the burden of death and disability. The issue in Iran is important as injuries are the second causes of burden of death and disability. The purpose of this research was to study and understand the extent and nature of the occurrence of injuries and to examine the patterns and compounding effects of many variables representing socio-demographic risk factors within the frameworks of population health. Data from DHS Iran 2000 was used for the analysis.
The results indicated that the socio-demographic factors had a statistically significant effect on the occurrence of injuries and the risk of injuries is not accidental and inevitable; rather, it is socially constructed and could be prevented. According to the results, the occurrence of injuries is culture-dependent and bivariate and multivariate models indicated that contrary to previous researches, being a migrant had a statistically significant effect on the occurrence of injuries. Finally, the findings of this research showed that the social and demographic factors are not merely a preface to understanding the immediate factors of injuries; but, as the fundamental causes of risk, they are in fact undeniable realities of such occurrences.
