How to submit an article

After registering on the journal's website, the corresponding author of the article should enter the 'Submit a New Manuscript' section and carefully fill in all the requested information.

When submitting your article, you need to upload the following files:

1. Title page: including Authors’ name, academic position, and affiliations in English language and Persian (only for Farsi manuscript), corresponding author’s email and phone number.
2. Main manuscript: prepared according to the journal’s requested format (in *.doc or *.docx format).
3. Authorship Statement Form: When submitting a manuscript to the Journal, all contributing authors are required to complete, sign, and submit an Authorship Statement Form. This form verifies that the manuscript represents authentic and valid work, and that neither this manuscript nor one with significantly similar content under their authorship has been published or is being considered for publication elsewhere, including electronically in the same form, in English or in other languages, without the written consent of the copyright holder. All authors must agree to allow the corresponding author to serve as the primary correspondent with the editorial office, review the edited manuscript, and proofread it. Additionally, the corresponding author is required to specify each author's contribution to the work described in the manuscript.
4. Conflicts of Interest Form:A Conflict of Interest is defined as a set of conditions in which professional judgment concerning a primary interest, such as the validity of research, may be influenced by a secondary interest, such as financial gain. A Conflict of Interest Disclosure is an agreement or declaration by the author(s) that they have not been paid for the work, or if they have, stating the source of their payment. The Conflict of Interest Disclosure provides readers of the manuscript with information about authors' interests that could influence how they receive the work. The author(s) are obliged to submit a Conflicts of Interest form and assume responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the submitted manuscript. The Conflict of Interest Disclosure form must be signed by all authors, and it must be stated whether permission has been received to use any material in the manuscript, such as tables, figures, etc., or whether no permission is necessary to publish the authors' work.

Types of Articles Publishable in the Journal of Population Association of Iran (JPAI)

The Journal of Population Association of Iran (JPAI) welcomes submissions of four types of articles for review and publication: 1) Original Research Articles, 2) Review Articles, 3) Viewpoints/Opinions, and 4) Technical Papers.

The Journal of Population Association of Iran (JPAI) adheres strictly to ethical publishing standards and does not accept articles that have been previously published or are under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors are expected to respect these guidelines and avoid submitting such articles. Below, you will find detailed descriptions and conditions for each type of article. When submitting an article, authors must specify the type of article they are proposing. The final determination of the article type accepted for publication will be made by the journal, based on the article’s alignment with the specified criteria for each category, as outlined below:

1- Original Research Article

Original research articles present the findings of an original study. To maintain a consistent format, the article should be structured into the following sections, with a maximum length of 8,500 words (qualitative articles may extend up to 10,000 words):

Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Literature Review, Theoretical Framework, Methods and Data, Findings, Discussion and Conclusion, References, and an English Abstract.

Authors must follow the detailed guidelines provided in the "Instructions for Preparing Sections of Original Research Articles."

2- Review Article

 Review articles should include the same sections as original research articles and must not exceed 8,500 words. There are two types of review articles:

- Systematic Review: Studies that involve meta-analysis, meta-synthesis, systematic reviews, and so on fall into this category.

- Non-Systematic Review (Narrative Review or Scoping Review):  These articles critically evaluate existing knowledge in a specialized field or trace the historical development of knowledge in a specific area.

3- Viewpoint/Opinion

Viewpoint or opinion articles do not need to follow the structure of original research articles. They may address topics such as:  1) Critique of previous research, 2) Book reviews or critiques, 3) Analysis of emerging population issues, 4) Analytical perspectives on demographic phenomena or trends in demographic indicators,  5) Challenges or solutions related to demographic issues. 

 In addition to submissions by authors, viewpoints or opinions may also be invited by the editor-in-chief, members of the editorial board, or external experts. These articles should be between 1,000 and 4,000 words and must include references.

4- Technical Paper

Technical papers (or technical notes) do not require the structure of original research articles. They should be written in a news-analytical style, making them accessible to a broader audience. The primary goal of a technical note is to provide timely and relevant information to readers. While these articles must include references, the number of references should be limited. The journal reserves the right to edit accepted technical notes as necessary. The length of a technical note should be between 1,000 and 4,000 words. Technical papers may cover a variety of topics, including: 

- Reports on innovative initiatives or advancements in the production and collection of demographic data by researchers or statistical organizations. 

- Summaries of significant scientific events in demography, such as conferences or workshops (provided that no more than three months have passed since the event at the time of submission). 

- Lessons learned from efforts in laws and policies related to demographic issues. 

- Contributions to the development of new ideas, theoretical perspectives, techniques, or research programs.

Manuscript Preparation

This journal accepts articles in Four categories: Original Research Article, Review Article, Viewpoint/ Opinion and Technical Paper, and in Persian languages. Manuscripts must be submitted as a Word document (*.doc or *.docx) for the refereeing process and should be formatted in a single column, not double column. All figures, tables, and supplementary data should be embedded and included in the main manuscript file. Moreover, all manuscripts must contain essential elements such as

1-Title,

2-Abstract,

3-Keywords,

4-Introduction,

5- Review of research background,

6- Theoretical research,

7-Materials and Methods,

8- Findings,

9-Results and Discussion,

10-Acknowledgement,

11-References.

 

References

All the references should be cited throughout the manuscript text as well as in the Reference section organized in accordance with the APA reference style.

Tables

Tables and graphs should not be submitted as photographs or images. Tables should be embedded within the text. Each table should have a clear and logical structure with consecutive numerical order (i.e., 1, 2, 3, etc.). For each table, include a caption that explains its components. The number of tables used in the article should not exceed 6 tables. If necessary, it is recommended that the tables of the article be combined with each other as much as possible and summarized in a smaller number of tables. The information presented in the tables should not be repeated in the form of diagrams in the article.

Figures

Figures and illustrations should be of high quality and embedded within the text. The following guidelines should be applied to figures:

Each figure should have a concise caption that accurately describes what the figure depicts. Include the captions as text of the manuscript and do not embed them in the figure.

In the case of graphs, it is necessary to specify the titles of horizontal and vertical axes for all graphs.

Others tips

Use half-spaces throughout the text (Ctrl+Shift+2).

All Latin words mentioned in the text for the first time must have an equivalent in the footnote. Footnote numbers should not be typed manually and the footnote numbering should not be continuous.

Footnotes must restart numbering on each page.
