One of three types of society in the world is tribal society that Iran and India are availing it. The definition of the tribal system is different in various parts of the world. The tribal system in Iran is based on animal husbandry and growing agricultural means in a limited area and such a society is often migrant. While in social tribal system of India, some groups are relatives and make their living by farming in a wide scope of land, and animal husbandry in a limited area and they are completely settled. Today, the population census of India shows the increase in the tribal population. On the other hand, the population census of Iran shows the decrease in tribal population despite of its relatively high birth rates. One of the basic causes of this decrease in the population of tribes in Iran is its definition who have merely considered the migrating tribes, but never paid attention to those who have settled. It should be known that such a difference in definition caused that population of tribes in India has been increasing while in Iran has been decreasing.  این مقاله به منظور شناسایی و مقایسه انسان شناختی جمعیت عشایر و قبایل ایران و هند که همراه با سنت های کهن خود، همچنان نظام اجتماعی شان را حفظ کرده اند، تدوین شده است. یکی از اشکال سه گانه جامعه در جهان، جامعه قبایلی و عشایری است، که کشورهای ایران و هند از آن بهره مند هستند. تعریف نظام قبیله ای در نقاط مختلف جهان متفاوت است. در حالی که در جامعه قبایلی هند، گروهی از مردم را هم خویشاوند گویند که با بهره گیری از دو شیوه معیشت کشاورزی، در سطحی بسیار گسترده، و پرورش دام، در چند قبیله در سطحی بسیار محدود، زندگی می کنند و کاملا اسکان یافته اند، جامعه عشایری در ایران، متکی بر اقتصاد دامداران و از نظر شکل اسکان، کوچنده است. امروزه آمار جمعیتی قبایل هند به علت رشد و ازدیاد جمعیت آن کاملا در حال تغییر است و در هر دهه شاهد افزایش جمعیت آن هستیم. اما آمار جمعیتی ایالات و عشایر در ایران، حتی در دوره های میزان بالای موالید روبه کاهش بوده است. یکی از دلایل بسیار مهم روند کاهش جمعیت ایلات و عشایر ایران، به تعریف نظام عشایری از سوی سازمان ها و ارگان های دولتی بر می گردد که غالبا تنها عشایر کوچنده را در تعریف خود جای داده اند و ملاک های اسکان را مورد قبول خود قرار نمی دهند. امروزه جمعیت قبایل هند از جمعیت ایران بیشتر است. در حالی که جمعیت عشایر ایران به زیر یک میلیون نفر تقلیل یافته است. https://www.jpaiassoc.ir/article_722612_2ee5e8c5bb9e53dc0ff753258fdd3482.pdf
