Using a qualitative method with Basic Interpretive approach, 18 in-depth interviews were conducted with women who were married within last 5 years and were voluntarily childless. These women were selected using purposive sampling method in the summer of 2017 and thematic content analysis with inductive approach was conducted. The main theme emerged was: “<em>Child meaning is an integration of an intrinsic and internal desire with ambiguity and concerns ,which coincide with increased rationality on voluntary & planned childbearing, changes in child’s role in the quality of marital relations and elderly support. It is a dynamic notion and it evolves by time transition (both in the life course, and cohort transition</em>)”. Despite intrinsic value of child, due to increased rationalization, women are looking to find circumstances that decide on child bearing upon control of all conditions, to ensure of marital quality before childbearing and looking to mediate their expectations from their child in elderly by having an active and healthy elderly. This meaning of child and it’s implication in life needs to be considered in the interpretation of changes of childbearing behavior in recent generations. تحقیق حاضر، با هدف واکاوی معنای فرزند و نقش آن در فرزندآوری از دیدگاه زنان بی‌فرزند ساکن شهر تهران انجام شد. با استفاده از روش کیفی با رویکرد تفسیری بنیادی، 18 مصاحبه عمیق با زنان بدون فرزندی که حداقل 5 سال از ازدواج آن‌ها گذشته و به‌طور ارادی بارور نشده‌اند، انجام شد. این زنان به روش هدفمند در تابستان 1396 نمونه‌گیری شده و داده‌های کیفی با استفاده از تحلیل محتوایی موضوعی با رویکرد استقرایی تحلیل شدند. مقوله اصلی عبارت است از: "<em> فرزند</em><em>تلفیقی از تمایل غریزی و ذاتی به‌همراه نگرانی و ابهام است که با رشد عقلانیت در فرزند‌آوری ارادی و برنامه‌ریزی شده، بازاندیشی در نقش فرزند بر کیفیت رابطه زناشویی و حمایت سالمندی همراه بوده و مفهومی دینامیک بوده که با گذر زمان (چه در گذر نسلی، چه در دوره زندگی)، متحول می‌شود"</em>. علی‌رغم ارزش ذاتی فرزند، به علت رشد عقلانیت، زنان به‌دنبال شرایطی هستند که تصمیم فرزند‌آوری را با کنترل شرایط اتخاذ کرده، قبل از فرزندآوری از کیفیت رابطه زناشویی اطمینان حاصل کرده و با داشتن سالمندی فعال و سالم، به‌دنبال تعدیل انتظارات خود از فرزند در سالمندی هستند. این معانی برای فرزند و کارکردهای آن در زندگی در تفسیر تغییرات رفتار فرزندآوری نسل‌های حاضر کاربرد خواهد داشت https://www.jpaiassoc.ir/article_36224_e88b626d160c1a39a5f17f6500fbf813.pdf
